With the emphasis placed on a democratic and participatory approach, Christ the King Primary School elects an Eco-council every school year to help maintain environmental awareness, sustainable development and bring awareness to programmes such as Eco Schools and Sustrans NI.
Eco-schools is an international programme for environmental education and management, which aims to raise students' awareness of sustainable development issues through classroom study as well as school and community action.
Sustrans is an organisation that makes it easier for people to walk and cycle. They connect people and places, create liveable neighbourhoods, transform the school run and deliver a happier, healthier commute. Sustrans works in partnership, bringing people together to find the right solutions. Theymake the case for walking and cycling by using robust evidence and showing what can be done.
