Curriculum

In Year 2 we learn lots of exciting and new things across all areas of the Curriculum. There’s lots to do……in Year 2.

Literacy
We are following the Read, Write, Inc programme which is outstanding and we will be producing lots of wonderful pieces of independent writing using a range of genres in Year 2. We will also be reading lots of interesting books and taking part in lots of talking and listening activities. You’ll be amazed to see what we can do.

Numeracy
Throughout the year, we will be developing our skills and knowledge in Processes in Maths, Number, Data Handling, Measures and Shape and Space. Our Numeracy tasks are interactive, practical and fun making use of lots of resources including the use of Numicon, Izak 9 and ICT.

World Around Us
Here are some of the exciting topics we can look forward to studying this year…These thrilling topics will mean there will be lots to keep us busy and lots of cross curricular links to enjoy.

· Hey! Hey! Look at me!

·  In the Toybox

· Over the Rainbow

·  Here comes the sun!

We also complete lots of STEM experiments and investigations through these topics to test things out and discover new facts. We can’t wait to share our knowledge.

Personal Development and Mutual Understanding
We all love PDMU because we get to explore our personal and emotional development, health and safety, relationships with others, and how we can all work together for the good of our community. We are able to discuss all our hopes and fears in a safe environment during Circle Time and we can also have fun in doing so! We use the PATHS and NSPCC Keeping Safe Programme in PDMU. Each day a child is selected to be "The Child of the Day" and we look forward to sharing our compliments with them at the end of the day.

P.E
We will have P.E. every Wednesday and Friday. Pupils in Year 2 are to wear their P.E. kit and their school jumper / cardigan to school on a Wednesday and Friday.

The Arts
In Year 2 we are exposed to lots of wonderful opportunities to be creative. We especially love participating in a variety of music, dance and art activities that we can complete through our cross curricular topics.

Our ‘superstars of the future’ demonstrate their wonderful talents on various occasions. We perform a selection of “hits” to the rest of the school where we accompany music from different genres with a selection of instrumentation.

Religion
We follow the Grow in Love Programme and we learn about how important God is to us in our lives. We explore all the different celebrations throughout the church year and learn to recite new prayers including: Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. Fr. Kevin and Fr. Declan also visit us throughout the school year.

ICT

We use ICT in various aspects of the school day to enhance our learning. We use IWB, I-pads, laptops and Bee-bot /E.a.R.L. and a range of Apps to explore and develop new skills in using ICT. Parents have signed up to Class Dojo and we share stories, photos and messages from Year 2 with parents using this App.
